Photography Workshops

General Seminar & Workshop Information

HAVE FUN JOINING ME ON A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY!!!

The most important thing I offer people attending my seminars and/or participating in my workshops is to thoroughly enjoy the experience while learning valuable, practical photographic knowledge.  If all of us don't enjoy the experience, then the seminars and workshops probably aren't worth doing...

I offer a variety of photographic seminars and workshops for small and large audiences.

My Seminar Topics range from:

•  "A Sense of Place:" which illustrates how a photographer's degree of familiarity with an environment affects how he/she documents that environment.

•  "Landscapes of Carbon County Wyoming:"  Presentation of natural and developed landscapes in Carbon County Wyoming, especially focusing on Wind Farm Development.

•  "Crow Treibal Photographs, Then & Now:"   Juxtaposing early 20th Century photographs of the people on the Crow Reservation by Richard Throssel, with my own contemporary photographs of the Crow people.

•  Other Topics:  The Quality of Light, Beginning to Advanced photography, and topics by request.

Workshop topics include:

Beginning, Intermediate and advanced Photography, photographing landscape panorama composite images, techniques for better image composition, photographing people in formal and informal settings, how to get better snapshots of family and friends, topics by request and more.

Additionally, I will customize a workshop for a group of friends who what to learn and photograph together, creating the workshop to fit the groups wants, needs and photographic levels.

Please contact me via dan@haywardphoto.com or call me at 307-742-6307 to receive more information and to be entered into my e-mail list to receive information about the seminars and workshops as it becomes available.

Here are the Scheduled Workshops.

RED DESERT EXCURSION!!!

Labor Day Weekend, from 10 AM Sept 3 to late afternoon, Sept 5

Biodiversity Conservation Alliance (BCA) will lead a 3-day Red Desert Caravan -- a free, public outing -- over Labor Day weekend, September 3rd through 5th, visiting the units of a potential Red Desert National Conservation Area, This auto-safari includes Adobe Town, the Kinney Rim, and highlights in the Jack Morrow Hills (the Boar’s Tusk, Killpecker Dune Fields, and Honeycomb Buttes). The tour requires car camping and includes light day-hikes.

I’m combining an outdoor photography workshop with this BCA trip to the Red Desert. Workshop participants will be part of the BCA excursion yet we’ll have out own activities in addition to activities with the tour participants. Because the excursion will go to a variety of locations, some activities and timeslines will be more structured while others, like our photographing activities and times will be quite flexible! Workshop participants will shoot both as a group, and out on our own, during a substantial part of each morning and evening, making the best use of the magical Golden Hours of low-sun lighting. We'll also shoot during each mid-day as time permits. (Yes, there are good mid-day photographs you can capture...).
The photography workshop includes one Photography Lecture/discussion on how to improve your outdoor photographs on Thursday evening August 25 from 6:30 to 9:30, and a pre-excursion Photo Critique/feedback Session on Wednesday evening, August 31 from 6:30 to 9:30.
We’ll also get together for a post-excursion Critique/feedback Session on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9:30.  This allows you a lot of time to digitally work on your photos before they are critiqued.  If the post-excursion critique date doesn’t work for you, let me know and you’ll be able to attend another critique/feedback session later in the fall.

Be sure to sign up with BCA before reserving your place for the workshop because of the trip’s limited participation. Contact Erik at Erik@voiceforthewild.org to sign up for the BCA Red Desert Excursion itself. Space is limited for both the excursion and the workshop so sign up ASAP.

For more workshop details and to sign up for the workshop, please contact me either through any of the e-mail links on my web site at <haywardphoto.com> or by phone at 307 742-6307.

Cost:

$250 for the whole workshop. I’ll need a $75 deposit to hold your workshop place.

Crow Fair Multi-Day Photo Trip    (WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL & FUN TRIP WITH LOTS OF GREAT PHOTOS)

August 19 - 22!!!

Excursion objectives were met, and exceeded.;  Everyone was very happy and positive.

I'll offer a similar workshop excursion to photograph the Mustangs for Spring. Keep an eye out for the announcement.

(Workshop explanation below)

I’m planning to attend at least some of Crow Fair, and hope one or more of you will join me. I’ve written about Crow Fair before, so won’t include that info here. However, there’s a variety of web sites to visit if you Google Crow Fair 2011.

I’ll also visit a mustang ranch west of Devil’s Tower, after Crow Fair, so photographing some Spanish mustangs is part of the workshop too. Since we’ll customize the trip to work for everyone, the trip’s cost as a photo excursion will be determined by what we do. Contact me ASAP if you even have a little interest and want to explore the possibilities, and we’ll see what we come up with.

Cost:

In the $300 plus your own travel expenses.  Gas is included in your workshop price.

Half-Day &/or Full-Day Photo Excursion to the Snowy Range Mountain Range

To Be Rescheduled for mid to late Septeber.

3 different workshop time-options to choose from during the day:  From 6 to 9:30 AM, from 6 AM to 7:30 PM or from 4 to 7:30 PM.

I want to structure this workshop to include morning and evening lighting. So, for your convenience, you can choose from the three different options listed above. There will be some light to moderate hiking during each of the options. We’ll  photograph wide landscapes as well as focusing on the macro world around us, especially the bountiful flowers that blanket the Snowies and Libby Flats.

Costs:

$55 per person for either the morning or evening workshops.
$130 per person for the all-day workshop.

3-Hour Photo Excursion Near Laramie

Wednesday afternoon/evening, September 7 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM.

We’ll visit a location within 45 minutes of Laramie, and may visit a couple locations. Most likely, we’ll go toward Chimney Rock south of Laramie. We’ll photograph the monolith and hopefully have permission to shoot on private land among some great sandstone structures. If all works out, we’ll also photograph on a Bison Ranch further south in Colorado.

Cost:

$55 per person.

Second 3-Hour Photo Excursion Near Laramie

Wednesday afternoon/evening, September 21 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM.

Again, we’ll visit a location within 45 minutes of Laramie, and may visit a couple locations. I’ll be out of town till a few days before the 21st, and will continue planning this workshop while away. If you’re interested, contact me, and if you have any ideas for locations for this workshop, let me know.

Cost:

$55 per person.

Customize A Photo Workshop For Yourself And Some Of Your Friends

If you and at least 3 friends are interested in creating a custom workshop with me, contact me and we’ll put it together. This can include short local workshops and multi-day excursions. I can even include a trip that requires a flight to reach that location. Just let me know of your idea and we’ll do it.

Cost:

Cost per person depends on what we decide to do.
